Lizz Acee
Lizz serves on the firm's Management Committee as managing director of major markets, overseeing the Boston, New Haven, New York, Newark, and Washington DC offices.
With over two decades of experience practicing employment law, Lizz focuses her practice on employment and business litigation, internal investigations, and employment counseling. She is an efficient, effective litigator, routinely defending employers in a wide range of industries, including higher education, health care, biotech, manufacturing, retail, hospitality, and finance, against the full range of individual discrimination and contract lawsuits. Lizz's counsel also extends to employment-related tort claims, including defamation, tortious interference, and misappropriation of trade secrets, as well as contract claims involving non-competition, non-solicitation and other employment agreements.
In addition to litigating, Lizz regularly leads high profile internal investigations for employers related to all aspects of workplace misconduct. She also has extensive experience advising and representing private schools, colleges, and universities in a variety of employment-related matters, Title IX compliance, and conducting investigations involving both student and faculty misconduct.
Lizz also partners with her employer clients to help reduce their litigation vulnerabilities by providing day-to-day strategic counsel on issues ranging from employment policies to executive and employment agreements to employment issues related to successful corporate transitions and restructurings. She regularly protects clients' interests before the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and state workforce agencies across the country.

Maggie Surowka
Margaret serves as co-team leader of Barclay Damon's Health Care and Health & Human Services Providers Teams. A former general counsel at the New York State Dental Association with over 20 years of legal experience, Margaret has unique experience in health care and labor and employment. Her health care practice includes representing agencies, facilities, and individual providers in compliance matters, licensure, disciplinary, and ethics proceedings. She routinely counsels clients facing Medicaid, Medicare, and other governmental investigations and audits as well as assists with employment and contract matters. She assists clients with compliance programs and has successfully represented health care entities with significant disclosures to the federal and state government. Margaret also defends clients facing license revocation and represents them in disciplinary matters before the Office of Professional Medical Conduct and the Office of Professional Discipline. She also has defended daycare centers in proceedings brought by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services.
Margaret has decades of experience practicing labor and employment law. She counsels and represents employers on employment compliance issues and defends employers before the NYS Division of Human Rights. Margaret has conducted several internal investigations relating to sexual harassment allegations, discrimination complaints, and diversity and equity initiatives. She trains governing boards with respect to not-for-profit law and governance issues.

This will be a fast-paced, interactive discussion about the unique challenges faced by mental health, addiction, and holistic wellness providers in creating and maintaining workforce wellness in the wake of a global health emergency and the rising mental health crisis. This presentation will review recent significant legal developments and trends, including paid leave, sexual harassment, and other employment discrimination; COVID-19-related issues; and diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. We will also provide an overview of other regulations, including 42 CFR Part 2 and HIPAA, that may apply to your workforce. Finally, we will talk with you about staff shortages and turnover and how to create a first-choice workplace for your staff.
