Dr. Patricia O’Gorman, co-founder of NACoA, is a clinical psychologist, life coach, trauma and addiction specialist, and author of 9 books and over 80 articles for both professional and lay audiences. Her work addresses women’s empowerment, PTSD, substance abuse and it’s impact on children, adolescents and adults, emotional resilience and post-traumatic growth. Her impactful work extends to supporting veterans in a variety of addiction and mental health settings.
She is co-chair The American Psychological Association Workgroup on Covid, Healthcare and Addiction, co-founder The National Association for Children of Addiction; Board member: Horses Healing Hearts; Sober St. Patrick’s Day Foundation, the Saranac Lake Youth Center and a former Director, Division of Prevention, National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA).
Her books include: The Resilient Woman, The Girly Thoughts 10-Day Detox, Healing Trauma Through Self-Parenting, 12 Steps to Self-Parenting, The Lowdown on Families Who Get High.
Despite the serious nature of her work, she is well-known for her warm and funny presentations both nationally and internationally, where her work taken her to university and community settings throughout North America, and to the Middle East, Europe, and the Far East.
